PILLAR 01 · HOLISTIC ECONOMY

Economy

A Tonj East that feeds itself and earns its own money.

Wealth beyond cattle

SPLM aspirant Akuechbeny Kuol Akuechbeny Chirong proposes a transition toward a productive money economy while honouring the community’s way of life. The proposed Economy plan has an estimated cost of $10.8 million over ten years.

What the plan includes

  • 320 hand tractors available for affordable rental, with rental income supporting maintenance and future equipment.
  • 120 grain and crop warehouses to improve storage and help farmers decide when to sell.
  • 8 licensed veterinary companies to support animal health and livelihoods.
  • Local banking and savings options, including household accounts, investment and emergency funds, and community finance.
  • Employment initiatives and alternative livelihoods, with a proposed target of around SSP 1,000,000 monthly where feasible.

Delivery and accountability

The first four years target 192 hand tractors and 72 warehouses — 60% of those equipment and storage goals — with the remaining rollout planned by 2036. Progress is intended to be reported annually to every Payam.
